DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

Low back pain, sciatica, and pain that limits your day.

Patients often tell Dr. Cordima: “I slept wrong.” “I bent over and it grabbed.” “It’s been stiff for years and it’s getting worse.”

  • Chronic aching or recurring low back pain
  • An acute flare-up after bending or lifting
  • Severe pain that limits sitting, standing, or walking
  • Radiating pain into the buttock or leg
  • Sciatica with shooting pain, tingling, or numbness
  • Stiffness or muscle tightness that interrupts your day

You may have been told you have a bulging or herniated disc, degenerative changes, or sciatica. Your symptoms, health history, and examination help guide the next step. A diagnosis alone does not tell us whether care here is right for you.

NECK & BACK PAIN CARE

Looking for neck pain relief in Somerville?

Neck stiffness, difficulty turning your head, discomfort after desk work, or pain traveling toward your shoulder or arm are concerns you can discuss at your visit. Tell Dr. Cordima when your symptoms started, what makes them worse, and whether there was an injury.

Our shared neck and back pain evaluation starts with your health history and examination. You can explore chiropractic care, read the neck and back pain patient guide, or learn about neck pain and whiplash after a car accident. The findings guide which options may be appropriate.

OUR APPROACH & YOUR FIRST VISIT

Less pain. More freedom to move. Clear next steps.

Your goals might be getting through a workday, walking farther, or sleeping more comfortably. Your first visit helps us understand your neck and back concerns and whether care here may be right for you.

01

Understand your neck and back concerns

Dr. Cordima starts with your story: when the pain began, what changes it, and whether it travels into an arm or leg. He watches how you move, checks range of motion, and feels for restricted joints and muscles that are guarding. His evaluation includes a neurological examination, with digital X-rays when indicated to assess alignment, disc spaces, and degenerative changes.

02

Review your findings and options

Dr. Cordima explains your findings, whether non-surgical care here may be appropriate, and the recommendations and costs before you decide. If another evaluation is needed, he’ll explain the next step.

03

Build around your goals

More comfortable movement and greater confidence in the activities you miss help guide an appropriate care plan.

Bring any available imaging reports and a list of treatments you’ve already tried. Not every patient is a candidate, and results vary.

Can I come in for acute or chronic back pain?

Yes. You can schedule an evaluation for a recent flare-up or pain that keeps returning. We review how your symptoms began, their severity, and how they affect your day to discuss appropriate next steps.

What if the pain radiates into my leg?

Tell Dr. Cordima where the pain travels and whether you also notice tingling, numbness, or weakness. Radiating leg pain can occur with sciatica, but symptoms alone do not confirm a diagnosis. Your evaluation helps guide the next step.

Can I come in if I have a bulging or herniated disc?

Yes. Bring any available imaging reports and details of previous care. Your findings determine whether non-surgical care here may be appropriate or another evaluation is needed.

Will I need X-rays?

Dr. Cordima will decide whether X-rays are needed based on your history and examination. Existing imaging reports can be helpful. Not every patient needs new imaging.

Can you promise relief or help me avoid surgery?

No. Not every patient is a candidate, and results vary. Dr. Cordima will discuss realistic expectations and whether care in our office may be appropriate.

How do I book my visit?

Use the Book a New Patient Visit button or call (617) 629-2600. Our office is at 707 Broadway, Somerville, MA 02144.

Can I book a visit for neck pain as well as back pain?

Yes. Our Somerville office evaluates neck pain and back pain. Tell Dr. Cordima about stiffness, limited movement, previous injuries, or symptoms traveling toward an arm or leg. Your history and examination guide the next step.

Where can I learn about sciatica and herniated disc care?

This page explains the symptoms and evaluation process for back pain and sciatica. For more detail, read the neck and back pain guide or learn about spinal decompression. A diagnosis alone does not determine whether a particular treatment is right for you.

What happens at a neck pain evaluation in Somerville?

Tell Dr. Cordima when the pain started, what movements are difficult, whether there was an injury, and what care you have already tried. Your health history and examination help determine whether care here may be appropriate or another evaluation is needed. You can discuss neck and back concerns at the same visit.

Why do you include neurological testing in a neck or back pain evaluation?

Pain traveling into an arm or leg, or changes in sensation or strength, may involve nerves. Neurological testing helps Dr. Cordima assess whether nerve involvement may be part of the picture and whether further medical evaluation is needed.
